    English text:

    THE STARRY MESSENGER

    Performance with Donald Kitt

    An important messenger

a very humoruos guest play at Odin Teatret

The actor Donald Kitt from Canada presents his performance The starry messenger at Odin Teatret. The performance is directed by Tage Larsen, Odin Teatret.

The starry messenger, is inspired by the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei and his famous and seminal book "Sidereus Nuncius". The book was published just over 400 years ago in 1610 in Venice. Galileo Galilei's discoveries contradicted the Aristotelean cosmology - the earth being the centre of the Universe with the Sun and the planets circling around it - and caused something of a stir.

But don't think that The starry messenger is some kind of a complicated lecture in physics. Far from it. In this version by Donald Kitt, the meaning of Galilei's discovery (that the earth and thus the human beings are not the centre of the Universe) is transformed from this undeniable fact into a lively, humorous and thought provoking theatre performance. In Kitt's performance we are confronted with the modern human being, previously the Lord of the Universe, now suddenly finding himself small as a fly, alone in the space of infinity.

The performance is presented in English. Dureation approximately one hour.

The director of the performance, Tage Larsen, is this month leading a new kind of workshop - the first in a series ( WIN - Workout for Intercultural Navigators) at Odin Teatret with 20 international participants, which is directed to theatre practitioners and cultural animators who recognise in their craft the capacity to interferein the different cultures of the social texture of a community. Theatre is a technique which establishes relationships to oneself, to the past and present, to space and to the community, to the other. Differently from the traditional practice for which the performance is central, theatrical insight can be applied to intervene and revitalise a particular milieu.
