Iben Nagel Rasmussen, actor at Odin Teatret, talks about her father Halfdan Rasmussen; A wild story about the skinny working class boy who became known as just Halfdan to the whole of Denmark.
Iben Nagel Rasmussen will paint a different and less recognisable portrait of Halfdan through poetry reading, songs, photos and movie clips; His upbringing in a big family with many children in a small two-bedroomed apartment in Christianshavn (Copenhagen), his early youth with unemployment, the political involvement in the 30s, time spent in højskoler, a bicycle trip to Spain where the Civil War is raging, the meeting with other budding young poets in the Young Artists' Club during the German occupation and his road to fame and recognition.
HALFDANSK RAPSODI is not a children's performance, but rather a journey into the sometimes bleak background that Halfdan's adult poems grew out of. Of course, complemented in rich measure with the fun, lean and distinctive rhyme that came to characterize him as a poet.
