What Was Mine is a performance about the building of a performance and the paradoxical nature of absence. Which haunting presences still influence the present moment? What can we do with broken pieces and unfinished fragments? The many layers of remembered narratives crash, grind and then re-unite like ice floes on a frozen lake. Now the surface might carry weight again.

Mine was a story about two people in a closed space, searching for meaning or an exit. It was a work in progress presented in May 2018 by STEEL, a theatre and performance ensemble formed in Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium. STEEL consisted of Niels Kristian Brinth (DK), Vilja Itkonen (FIN) and Marije Nie (NL) who worked together at Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium in Holstebro since autumn 2016. The process started when Marije was teaching Brinth to tap dance with his wheelchair. This dance developed into a short work demonstration directed by Vilja. Brinth left the group in January 2019.
