Peter Laugesen - Poesi på en torsdag
05. November 2020
7500 Holstebro, Denmark
Kr. 80 / 40
This month's poet is Peter Laugesen
Peter Laugesen was born in 1942 in Copenhagen and became a student at Aarhus Cathedral School in 1961. After graduating, he spent a few years traveling around Europe and was for a period a member of the international artist group, Situationistisk Internationale, where also the painter Asger Jorn spent his time. Meanwhile, he continued to write and made his debut with the collection of poems Landskab, Borgen, in 1967. Since then, he has with impressive diligence developed an authorship that is partly overwhelming in scope - almost 60 collections of poems have been created in addition to translations, dramatic works, art criticism and other writings - and partly characterized by a constant development. The starting point for authorship is freedom and boundlessness. Everything can be poetry, everything can be written. A program that, of course, requires the utmost self-discipline. The poetic writing can flow both high and low and through all genres.
Peter Laugesen's latest publication is the collection of poems Vadehave. Gyldendal 2020, which has received great praise. He is a member and has been a member of the Danish Academy since 1997 and has received awards from Morten Nielsen's Memorial Scholarship, Emil Aarestrup Medal, the Danish Academy's Grand Prize and the Critics' Prize.

Poetry on a Thursday is a regular evening event in Holstebro which gives people the opportunity to meet contemporary Danish poets. These evenings, at which the invited poet reads his or her own poems, happen three times in the spring - February, March and April - and three times in the autumn - September, October and November - on the first Thursday of the month in question.
