WORKSHOP based on basic training in Kalaripayattu, a martial art from South India, conducted by Carolina Pizarro.

Carolina Pizarro will pass on tools that she received from her guru Lakshman Gurukal, with the aim of giving to the participants a brief but exhaustive introduction to the practice of the Kalaripayattu martial art at a beginner’s level, according to the style of Hindustan Kalari Sangham. The training is based on a sequence of different kicks and animal postures. Combining the two, the participants discover different kinds of energy in action and how they can apply the different energy to their performances.

Training Principles:

  • Dialogue with tiredness, resistance, energy, weight control, focus, breathing, balance, flow, composition and awareness of the body’s centre.
  • Learning from Kalaripayattu physical scores: repetition, codification, organicity and rhythm.
  • Theatricality and directions of the body, space and time.
  • Development of three essential capacities: patience and perseverance, effort sustainment, and keeping calm and being in the present.

  • It is an intensive physical workshop.
  • Participants should not have physical lesions.
  • Wear comfortable clothing (and bring a change of clothing/t-shirt), bring drinking water and a notebook and pen.
  • No previous experience needed.

WORKSHOP for actors and performers, conducted by Donald Kitt.

The work will focus on several aspects:

  • the performers physical training
  • the development of actions inspired by the use of an object
  • vocal exploration: the discovery of an individual rhythm, spacial awareness and dynamism

The performer's work evolves from the creation of personal material with the stick as a partner and culminates in a montage. Throughout the development of this material the performer will weave it with texts, songs and the use of space. The workshop aims at encouraging a personal process opening up hidden meanings.

The participants must each bring a text and a song known by heart; a phrase extracted from an expression or a nursery rhyme and a wooden stick (min. 150cm x 2,8cm cicumference).

WORKSHOP for actors, dancers, musicians and theatre students, conducted by Elena Floris.

The training is based on the work of the Bridge of Winds, an international theatre research group led by Iben Nagel Rasmussen, actress of Odin Teatret since 1966.

The sessions seek to create an uninterrupted flow in which the actor interacts with space, rhythm, intensity and with his companions.

Vocal training focuses on the resonators of the voice in the body, polyphonic singing and theatricalisation of music.
